Just so much fun to think of this as the person running our country

It just keeps getting worse.
So, I drive by the old apartment today and see that it looks like somebody has moved in. Later on Kasi comes home and tells me that the woman that was subletting our apartment is breaking the sublet because it reeks of car urine in there. I called the leasing office and found out that somebody had signed the sublease but was breaking it.

So, how can it be that easy for somebody to sign a sublease with me (it wasn't with the apartment complex it was with the individuals on the lease, namely Kasi and I) and then break it at their whim but I can't even get out of the main lease.

Oh, and now they want to have us pay for all new carpets in there as well as pay them more rent, after somebody has moved in and been living in the place since Sunday.

It is time for us to get some legal advice and see what we can do. I'm almost positive that it is highly illegal (and against the Tenant's Rights in Indiana) for them to charge us rent on a place that we have not had access to since July 30th, especially a place that somebody else has been using.

Continuing Apartment Drama!
So, of course the woman that was going to move in is completely unhappy with how clean the place is, even after I spend 2 1/2 hours yesterday recleaning the bathroom, which was only slightly dirty after two weeks, the kitchen, in which I forgot to wipe out 1 cabinet and needed to scrub out the oven before mopping all of the crap they had tracked all over the place, and washing all the windows again. She complained about ring stains on the counter tops, which won't come off no matter how hard I scrub or what I use. She also complained about spider webs on the ceilings. Well, that last one is a result of them having had the place locked up for over two weeks with almost nobody going in since we moved out, not that we even now have access to the place we are supposedly still renting.

So, she is willing to reconsider pending that the place is professionally cleaned. I just want to get this place out of my name and out of my life, so I am just going to let them do it. I don't care any more. This is a giant cluster fuck. They are completely incompetent.

Oh, and the high notes from being shown what was dirty yesterday:

1.) It was obvious that I hadn't mopped because there was dirt all the way up to the baseboard under the sink in the kitchen (which had nothing to do with them having tracked dirt all over that kitchen from cleaning out behind the fridge where we missed and tracking it in from the back.)

2.) There were dead bugs on the window sills and even on the carpet, so its obvious that we hadn't cleaned the windows or the living room (she even called the dead bug that was stuck to the living room carpet a dried leaf when I first talked to her on the phone to make it seem like we missed cleaning up obvious things.)

3.) She rubbed her fingers along the tub and showed me the white/gray powder and told me that it was evidence that the tub had never been cleaned. She even offered to do it again to prove it to me. (This had nothing to do with dust settling in there after over 2 weeks of being locked up.)

Oh, and when I went in yesterday, the only living things in the place were spiders that had survived and thrived on all the bugs that get in.

I just want this to be done. So, if people would send good energy or prayers or whatever so that this woman will just take the place off of our hands. Oh, and again, any help with finding a good lawyer that can explain the mostly non-existent rights of a renter in Indiana, to tell me whether or not it is legal to be charging me rent on a unit that I have no access to even though it is still legally mine to do with as a please and after they said they would let me break the lease (which they will probably deny.)

Quick Question
Anyone know where I can get some free legal advice in Bloomington? I have a question concerning my lease and don't know who I can ask without having them make me pay them for a 2 minute question with a yes or no answer.

Apartment Drama!
I an sending out a general request for aid. I will get into the details below, but if anyone can stop by my old apartment tonight between 5:00 and 8:00 and help me clean some, it will be greatly appreciated.

So, here is what is happening.

First, we are paying for a half a month rent on an apartment that we are still under lease for but have not had access to since we moved out on July 30th. At least we don't have to pay late fees. Not having to pay all of August's rent is contingent on the lady )who is coming by tomorrow morning to inspect the place and move in) accepting the place as clean and signing the lease. If not, then they still don't have a subletter for our place and we will have to continue to pay rent on a place that isn't actually ours in any way other than legal document.

Second, they were going to hire cleaners to come in and deal with the place. Good thing they were lazy and have only gotten around to doing a brief wipe down of surfaces and picking up some things that got lost behind/under the refrigerator. Apparently, the place, having been supposedly locked up for over 2 weeks, managed to get dirty again. They made it sound like we didn't clean a damn thing. They said the stove wasn't clean, nor was the refrigerator. The floors looked like they hadn't been mopped. The kitchen drawers and cabinets needed to be wiped down again (no dust doesn't accumulate when a place has been locked up for a while). The bathroom just needed a full cleaning as the mirror, sink, toilet, bathtub and shower all appeared dirty. And this was after it was looked at yesterday rather than when we officially moved out.

To avoid the stupidity of paying professional cleaners to come in and do this, I am going to get my cleaning supplies and get over there and reclean the place. I know that the place getting leased is contingent on it being clean, so I am going to do it my self rather than rely on anyone else to try and ensure that. I am going to take pictures this time, though if anyone has a digital camera they would like to bring over and help take pictures, it would be greatly appreciated. I am also going to get them to look it over before we close it up to make sure they think it is clean. And, I am going to get a copy of the move out inspection report.

I want this place to be rented so I don't have to pay rent on it. We were told at the time of move out that they had a renter for it. Apparently that was a lie as well.

So, if anyone wants to help me out (as I am trying to allow my Wife some time to actually rest and take care of herself) I would greatly appreciate it, even if it is a bit of company. I will have from when I get into town and over there and get the place unlocked (as they have to let me in because the cleaners have my keys to the apartment so they have to use the master key) until they close up at 8:00.

Thank you all for listening.

I hate our old landlords
So, if you haven't read Kasi's latest LJ you should do so.

Personally, I find this all bull crap. I get home to find out that our former landlords over at Wapahani Hills called. Apparently, having never mentioned to me the notion of having to pay August rent, and having never given me an amount of what was owed at move out, they were hitting us with late charges for failure to pay August rent. Now, I don't know how personally legal it is. On one hand, they do have a contract that we signed that states that we would be staying for another year. We did sign the lease, which they were already allowing us to break. But, can they charge us rent for an apartment that we had no access to during the time that they were supposed to be leasing it to us. Yes, they took both of our sets of keys on the day we moved out so we haven't been able to use the place in over two weeks.

To ensure that we would get our deposit back (and knowing that everyone that has ever talked to us has told us that it is freaking impossible to ever get it back from them) I spent hours after work scrubbing down every surface I could. I vacuumed every inch of carpet, vacuumed out the cabinets and closets. I swept and mopped the kitchen and bathroom. I took soap and water and scrubbed the dirt off of every inch of counter and counter space, the stove, the windows, even scrubbed the mold off the walls. We patched and painted over every hole and cat scratch mark that was made to the place, even by the people that left before us. We cleaned that place up to be better than it was when we got it, and better than they deserved it. They still told us that it was a giant mess and that they were now hiring professional cleaners to come in and deal with it and that they were charging us for the service. Yes, we knew that the carpet cleaners flaked out on us and never showed up and that we were told that they would hire one and just take that out of our deposit. That was fine with us.

They are now coming up with every possible excuse to get more money out of us and not give us back our deposit. This is ridiculous. We were not informed of any problems during or even immediately after the move out inspection. In fact, we were told that everything was fine, that the place was really clean and looked great, except for the carpets which I stated above. We were told that they even had already filled our apartment, so somebody was taking over our lease. We were told nothing but good things. Well, the woman that worked there that did our move out inspection, who conveniently didn't have the move in inspection sheet in front of her to compare to, also conveniently no longer works there.

I already called HAND on them once before but never officially filed a report because I wanted to allow them the chance to fix things. I believe that HAND will be getting a call about the persistent problem that never got fixed and these new deceptive practices that are costing us a decent amount of money that we could be using to fix up our house. I will be glad when this is all over and done with.

For now, I will go, but I will be calling them tomorrow to personally talk with the office manager. Depending on how that goes, I may be calling L&M Rentals directly. Finally, depending on all of that, I will be calling HAND and seeing how much I have to ask them and what I need to tell them in my formal complaint.

For the rest of you in the Bloomington, IN area, avoid Wapahani Hills apartments at all costs. If you can, also avoid anything else by L&M Rentals. They owners seem like nice people in person but try very hard to screw you over and do as little as possible to keep things running to get that monthly rent check from you. Hey, and we were good tenants that very rarely complained, had very few issues that needed fixing, and always paid our rent on time. I should know, as my name was on every check I every wrote them for a deposit and rent.

Can you tell that I'm really angry at them?

The crazy!!!
Ok, so I am at work right now and have but one thing to say:

I now owe the bank for a house.

Much thanks to everyone that has come out and helped us move out of the apartment and into the new house. There is still a bit of stuff at the old apartment, but nothing that we can't get out with a few trips.

What we need now is help/wishes/good luck on getting the place cleaned up. We have to be out be the 31st, but will probably try to get the move out inspection done on Wednesday evening if we can, so Kasi doesn't have to miss more work and find a way out to the apartment and back. That means getting everything finally out (which we should have tonight) and then cleaning everything by tomorrow night, then calling in Stanley Steamers to clean the rugs.

In other news, our new house looks like our apartment threw up all over the living room. Other rooms are starting to come together.

In still other news, "We aren't allowed to have nice things, we have cats!" Bored cats.

Great News!!!
So, we got the house.

Admittedly, the amount of money they are giving us for repairs is not enough to fix most of them, but hopefully it will be able to fix 1 or 2 major ones and possibly a bit towards another. We can then work at or have family help fix some of the minor issues that exist.

We go to closing on Friday and then will be moving Friday evening and that entire weekend. We only have the use of the realtor's free moving van for Friday and Monday, so if people want to help us out Friday evening, that would be great. We will be trying to move all of the large things that would need to go in the moving van before we have to take it back Saturday morning, and then will probably just start loading the car and anyone else's car that wants to help over the weekend.

Cleaning will also need to happen here, so we will be rather busy.

If anyone wants to help us move, especially Friday evening after closing, we could all the hands we can get to lift and move the big, heavier stuff. We will be packing lots of other things away during the weekend, so hopefully there won't really be much in the way of packing to help with.

YAY!!!
So, I got a call on Tuesday from a gentleman at Lancaster Laboratories. Apparently they have major offices in Lancaster Pennsylvania but have minor offices around the country working as small departments in and around other major industrial and pharmaceutical companies. They have a small group of about 2 dozen that works at Lily.

I called back just a bit a go and I have a job interview with them next Thursday morning. It would be a food in the door. It may not be essentially long term (as they said, they will be there at least 2 more years and as long as the project runs), but it is Chemistry and pays more than my current job. It would be a step up. It would involve commuting every day and dealing with raising gas prices.

So, everyone wish me luck.

Oh, and if I get chosen, it would also involve a week of training out at their Lancaster facility, fully paid for.

Always looking for a good monkey
I found this on another board and grabbed it. I'm fond of monkey icons and thought that this little dancing monkey would be fun.

Work fun of the day
Entering my sales orders for the day I came upon this little tid-bit.

Our customer sent in an order on 10/21/07 for 8 pieces due on 10/8/07. No previous order had been made for this date, and the purchase order for this part had been officially closed by them on 7/19/07. Needless to say, I did not enter it, but it is a nice trend to see that I'm supposed to have time traveled into the past to ensure that these 8 pieces were sent out on time.

Hope everyone else is having as much fun as I am at work.

Time for a check-up on my silly body.
Just over 11 hours of being awake today! That's right, I said 11 and it is only 12:30 now.

So, my body, besides suffering from the effects of starting to get sick (I can always tell when I'm going to get sick because I get a sour throat the day before the runny nose and coughing comes on) decided that it wanted to wake up at 1:30 this morning. This is nothing new as the cats regularly wake us up at odd hours in the early morning. However, after 3 hours of laying in bed and trying very hard to fall back asleep (and failing miserably) I decided to get up and just go do stuff, as two and a half hours of sleep wouldn't be much, and realistically I might have only gotten at most two, which would have left me feeling exhausted in the morning rather than rested.

So, I'm at work, have been since 7:30, and feeling sick but not passing out tired. I'm a little groggy, but feeling good. I'm just going to wait for the crash and hope that I can get a good night of sleep tonight.

In need of computer help
Both Kasi and I could use a RAM upgrade for our computers, but all of the RAM I've seen is rather expensive. She has a Dell Latitude and mine is slightly more home made. I don't know what the motherboard is on my computer, but it is compatible with the Athlon processor it came with. I'm also using old PC133 RAM.

Anyway, we were both looking for a 512MB-1GB upgrade. If any of you know of good, cheap brands that would work, or if anyone has extra unused RAM boards sitting around that they would be willing to donate to our cause, I would welcome the help.

Look to your right
If you ever see your accounts home page (not your friends page or whatever you are calling it) you will see a list of upcoming birthdays on the right side of the page. It even allows you to send a gift.

Well, today is the Birthday of my wonderful and loving wife, [info]fallenrose

Everyone say it with me:

Otherwise, live has been good, though it will be better when I finally get all of my insurance information and fix the screw up with my water bill.

I know I don't post much, so ask if you want to know how things are going.

Apparently I'm stupid, but not as dumb as I could have been.

Got an e-mail on Friday night that I looked at briefly on Saturday and responded to rather quickly before heading off to a friends wedding some 3 hours drive away.

Well, the e-mail said it came from Pay-Pals, just like so many I've gotten from them before. It said that my account had been suspended, which it has been in the past, and that they needed to verify my credit card information in order to reactivate it.

Get back Sunday night from a weekend of wedding and gaming to find a call on the answering machine concerning my credit card and verifying transactions made with it. Turns out from calling them this morning that they had a number of attempted transactions made in Romania using my credit card and they had been flagged. Apparently the Pay-Pal thing wasn't an actual Pay-Pal e-mail and the like it had went to their well crafted website which looks identical to what Pay-Pal actually has.

The good news is that all of the transactions failed because not only was I a dope for giving them all of the information they requested, I was also ignorant and had no clue what my 4-digit pin number was for the card. So, everything else may have been correct (though I think I also gave them the incorrect expiration date) but because that number was wrong they couldn't use the card. Save by my own ignorance.

They are going to issue me a new card and cancel out the old one and that should take care of the problem. So, everyone else out there with a Pay-Pal account be very careful of this phishing scam. If you hover your mouse over the link they provide in the e-mail it should show you the actual link site, which does not go to paypal.com or anything affiliated with it. I live and learn with no major problem here. Good thing I still don't know what the 4-digit pin number is on a credit card, and I would appreciate people not telling me what it is. Safer that way.
